Humanism:

Unmasking the God of Nice

There is a golden calf that for some time has been representing itself as the true God and liberator from the evils of the world. Just like the golden calf that Aaron made, it does not call itself another god, it only claims to represents the God Who led them out of bondage. It only wanted to be integrated into all that God was in order to add (falsely) to or take away from Who He is. I call this god, “the god of nice” for on its face is the niceness of man, in its heart is untold wickedness that destroys the hearts and souls of men. It is the offspring of Humanism and is humanistic through and through. It has succeeded in being worshiped and followed by the majority of those claiming to be Christians. It has polluted all but the most careful of God’s people.

There is no intent here to say that no one else in Christianity is exposing Humanistic influences in Christianity. Without other saints who have been true to the definitions of scripture, I would not have seen the things I see. Here are but a few of the more sober minds who have seen the corruption of scripture and Christianity.

Sunday morning in America is the greatest hour of idolatry in the whole week. Why? Because most people who are even worshiping God, are worshiping a God they don’t know. They’re worshiping a god that looks more like Santa Claus than the God of Scripture. They’re worshiping a god that is a figment of their own imagination. They created a god in their own likeness and they worship the god they’ve made. Paul Washer

We approach Scripture with minds already formed by the mass of accepted opinions and viewpoints with which we have come into contact, in both the Church and the world….It is easy to be unaware that it has happened; it is hard even to begin to realize how profoundly tradition in this sense has moulded us. J.I. Packer

We need to repent of the haughty way in which we sometimes stand in judgment upon Scripture and must learn to sit humbly under its judgments instead. If we come to Scripture with our minds made up, expecting to hear from it only an echo of our own thoughts and never the thunderclap of God’s, then indeed he will not speak to us and we shall only be confirmed in our own prejudices. We must allow the Word of God to confront us, to disturb our security, to undermine our complacency and to overthrow our patterns of thought and behavior.   John Stott

There have been no sects in the Christian world, however absurd, which have not endeavoured to support their opinions by arguments drawn from Scripture.   Laurence Sterne

All the troubles of the Church, all the evils in the world, flow from this source: that men do not by clear and sound knowledge and serious consideration penetrate into the truths of Sacred Scripture.  Teresa of Avila

Nor is it an attempt to define how much of Christianity is infected.

Just how much it has influenced and done damage is left to the reader to decide. The purpose here is only to uncover what I have discovered and to encourage each reader to examine the evidence before the throne of God, leaning on He who leads us into all truth

Since satan could not win the battle to convince many Christians that the scriptures were not written by men inspired of God and without error, he has successfully changed the definition of many critical words so that many now read and interpret the bible to say the same thing as secular society does.

This will be an examination into those words using scripture to interpret scripture. For most of us, it will mean putting aside some deeply ingrained ideas of what scripture was said to mean.
