Truth seems to have given way to opinions in this day, and any opinion is as good as another, so it is said.

We forget that Jesus is the Way, the TRUTH, and the Life.  Failing to major on truth means we know less of Jesus than He wants us to.  We seek truth more for establishing doctrines about Him and His kingdom far more than we do to know Him. Yet, Jesus said that all scriptures point to Him.  That is their purpose, not filling our heads with information.

Proverbs 14:12 There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.

Satan convinced adam and eve he was correct, he is a master at that and only the Holy Spirit can let us know the right way.
Today, most people believe what seems right to them.

1 Thessalonians 5:21 Test all things; hold fast what is good.

We are not to quiz things but to make extensive tests for satan is tenacious in his deceptions.  Those who will not allow the Holy Spirit to test ALL things WILL be deceived.
Most Christians test nothing but simply swallow and believe what a preacher says.

Truth is the most important thing to God and to us.

Without truth, we would know nothing about Him or His grace or His ways or His love.  Everything starts with and depends on truth.  The battleground is always over truth and satan fights his hardest at that level because truth begets faith.  If he can win at that level, he controls all levels.  That is what happened at the fall.  He was able to cause Adam and Eve to doubt what God said and believe what he said.  He always appeals to our self-interest (you will have power, wisdom, be as gods, etc) .  Do you know of any teachers who teach those things?
Christianity is based on truth.  Faith is based on truth.  Therefore, when someone lies or misrepresents the truth, we can know they are not of God.  God speaks only truth.
If someone has a teaching that can not be found in rightly divided scripture, we know they are false teachers.  False teachers extensively use scripture, but they do not rightly divide it.  Like satan did in Jesus’ temptation, they misuse it to suit their purposes.

The foundations of Christianity have shifted, been redefined, and been replaced.  It is the intent of this series to discuss the true, uncover the false, and promote a return to true foundations – contending for the faith once delivered to the saints. (Jude 3).

Oswald Chambers’ April 3rd devotional from My Utmost for His Highest addressed something few Christians consider.  If we are to be the church and people that God intended, it is necessary to delve into this area fearlessly.

If You Had Known!
April 3,

If you had known…in this your day, the things that make for your peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. —Luke 19:42

Jesus entered Jerusalem triumphantly and the city was stirred to its very foundations, but a strange god was there– the pride of the Pharisees. It was a god that seemed religious and upright, but Jesus compared it to “whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness” (Matthew 23:27).s

What is it that blinds you to the peace of God “in this your day”? Do you have a strange god– not a disgusting monster but perhaps an unholy nature that controls your life? More than once God has brought me face to face with a strange god in my life, and I knew that I should have given it up, but I didn’t do it. I got through the crisis “by the skin of my teeth,” only to find myself still under the control of that strange god. I am blind to the very things that make for my own peace. It is a shocking thing that we can be in the exact place where the Spirit of God should be having His completely unhindered way with us, and yet we only make matters worse, increasing our blame in God’s eyes.

“If you had known….” God’s words here cut directly to the heart, with the tears of Jesus behind them. These words imply responsibility for our own faults. God holds us accountable for what we refuse to see or are unable to see because of our sin. And “now they are hidden from your eyes” because you have never completely yielded your nature to Him. Oh, the deep, unending sadness for what might have been! God never again opens the doors that have been closed. He opens other doors, but He reminds us that there are doors which we have shut– doors which had no need to be shut. Never be afraid when God brings back your past. Let your memory have its way with you. It is a minister of God bringing its rebuke and sorrow to you. God will turn what might have been into a wonderful lesson of growth for the future.

  • Who is this strange god that Christians serve, what are its wiles?
  • How did it deceive us?
  • Why do we not consider it a monster?
  • How do we wake ourselves up?
  • How do we enter the cure for our own self imposed blindness?

Those questions and more are the topics of investigation here at   Traditions, doctrines, and religious preferences will be examined in the light of scripture for the purpose of returning us away from the false gods Christianity has been duped into accepting.

Our aim is to cleanse our false concepts of Christianity and the church, to separate the precious from the vile (Jeremiah 15:19) until all that is left are saints who turn the world upside down.

This may not be a comfortable investigation and uncovering, but as you read the pages, consider what foundations and beliefs you hold that define what Christianity is for you.

This is not to say that we have identified all of the false gods we serve, but at least it is a beginning.  We all know in part and see in part, and only as the saints discuss the parts they have been given, will we all come to fuller truth.

It is suggested that you read them in this order because some thoughts and themes are based thoughts developed in previous articles.
