Isa 61:4 And they shall build the old wastes, they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the waste cities, the desolations of many generations.
and how can we do that if we refuse to acknowledge that the old (the original) has been laid to waste, and is desolate (Ichabod)? The model is in the New Testament. Do we want to be those who, are The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.? There will be a price to be paid, people are comfortable in their religious ways and will gnash on you with their teeth.
Some think we can go to the new without dealing with what went before, they think it can be bypassed and just jump into the new.
Everything God does is built on previous foundations of truth. Each part of the foundation must be returned to the original condition before we continue on to the next, lest we build and uncertain and flawed foundations.
Many will want to only build on the first foundations and then stop.
The church has never achieved everything that Jesus said it should be. That is our goal, but it is an original and old goal. It is only knew because we have not walked in it as of yet.
See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant Jeremiah 1:10
Before rebuilding, we must root out, and pull down, and destroy and throw down the ways of man and must purge the leaven and separate the precious from the vile, for God would build on a pure and sure foundation.
Thus says the Lord: “Stand at the crossroads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way lies; and walk in it,and find rest for your souls.” But they said, “We will not walk in it.” Jeremiah 6:16
Are we those who will say, “We will not walk in it.”? We want things fixed, but not replaced. Not replaced with the ideas of man, but with the pattern God has established. We are not looking for a new thing, we are looking at the orginal thing and casting asunder all that does not conform to that pattern
Ne 2:17 Then said I unto them, Ye see the distress that we are in, how Jerusalem lieth waste, and the gates thereof are burned with fire: come, and let us build up the wall of Jerusalem, that we be no more a reproach.
Do we even admit that Christianity as American’s practice it, lies waste and the gates thereof are burned with fire? Are we so used to the way things are that we can no longer discern the difference between the acts and works and ways of the New Testament and today’s ways?
Amos 9:8 Behold, the eyes of the Lord GOD are upon the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from off the face of the earth; saving that I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob, saith the LORD. 9 For, lo, I will command, and I will sift the house of Israel among all nations, like as corn is sifted in a sieve, yet shall not the least grain fall upon the earth. 10 All the sinners of my people shall die by the sword, which say, The evil shall not overtake nor prevent us.
11 In that day [end of times] will I raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, and close up the breaches thereof; and I will raise up his ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old:
12 That they may possess the remnant of Edom, and of all the heathen, which are called by my name, saith the LORD that doeth this.
To say that we are a sinful kingdom seems harsh. But our youth are involved in premarital sex, and our adults are involved in extra marital sex and divorce is as great in the church as it is in the world, and we love worldly pleasures and its entertainment, even when we put a Christian label on it.
We have forgotten what true repentance means, and we use grace to excuse our carnality and worldliness.
And while some of the church indulges in it, the rest of the church tolerates it. Is not that evidence enough?
It it is not true, why so much sin (and it is increasing)?
Are we aware of His present sifting? Are we willing to be those who to endure His sifting or helps Him to sift?
Look at the price the prophets and Jesus and the apostles paid to restore the ways of the kingdom for the people. It is a harsh calling, a needed calling. Who will endure it? Who will choose it?
Where is the standard raised against sin loudly and clearly? Where is the complete remedy declared? Where are the clear and uncompromising voices? Where are the prophets of today?
We may not be among those who are guilty, but we are among those who tolerate and refuse change.
It is those who are God’s corn that will lead the people to build the tabernacle of David (which is an interesting study- one view here)
We can not build, we must not build until we close the breaches. As we proclaim and insist and bear the wrath of the American church, God will build His church from those same ruins.
